WHAT IS THE ENDOWMENT CHALLENGE?
The Grassroots Endowment Challenge is a match fund challenge, to encourage local giving to an endowment fund which will provide income to support local charitable activities for the longer term
Grassroots is a new government initiative which could allocate up to £310,000 to the Isle of Wight over the next three years.
The programme has two elements:
Grassroots Endowment Challenge
A match challenge to encourage local giving to an endowment fund which will provide income to fund local charitable activities for the longer term.
The challenge is on a 1:1 basis - the government adds £1 for every £1 raised.
Example: £1000 donation + Gift Aid of £280 = £1,280 + 100% uplift = £2,560
The Isle of Wight has a match challenge of £136,449 to raise by March 2011 which will help to build a Grassroots Island fund of nearly £310,000.
Grassroots Grants
Grassroots Grants is a small grants programme to support and develop local voluntary and community groups working in communities across the Isle of Wight. Grassroots Grants is a key element of the government’s strategy for building stronger and more active communities in England and is funded by the Office of the Third Sector and delivered by the Community Development Foundation.
