community foundation history

Community Foundations were  conceived in the USA in 1914, grew rapidly after the Wall Street crash and there are now 1700 worldwide. Community Foundations started in the UK in 1975 and today there are now 46 accredited Community Foundations across the UK. Collectively they manage £500m in endowments and distribute £65m per annum in grants.

HIWCF

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation was set up as an independent charitable foundation to connect local donors with local causes and charities in Hampshire & Isle of Wight.

HIWCF was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in September 2002 (company number 4534462)and became a registered charity in September 2003 (registration 1100417).

We award small grants to voluntary and community organisations throughout Hampshire & Isle of Wight.
